Electricity industry leader becomes Chairman

Psymetrix Ltd.-- a world leader in solutions for the real-time management of power system dynamics, today announced the appointment of Robin MacLaren, former Managing Director of Transmission and Distribution at ScottishPower as non-executive Chairman.

Psymetrix is a rapidly growing business focused on products that assist owners and managers of electricity transmission networks to optimise the use of electric Transmission networks to move power large distances. Its products are used by National Grid, and on Transmission networks throughout the world. The expansion of the business has encouraged the company to add industry expertise and experience to its board with the appointment of a new Chairman.

His extensive experience in the power utility sector is proving to be invaluable to us as we move forward in our growth phase," said Dr Jos Trehern, CEO and co-founder of Psymetrix.

Robin MacLaren's career in electricity has spanned 33 years. As former Managing Director and Chief Engineer of ScottishPower's Transmission and Distribution business he led the development of the Scottish Transmission and Scottish and Merseyside and Northern Wales Distribution networks. As founder Chairman of the UK Energy Networks association he has extensive experience of the issues faced by the electricity industry in the UK. He has worked in the United States, Hong Kong and the Middle East and brings a wide knowledge of the world wide electricity industry to Psymetrix.

As well as bringing his business experience to Psymetrix, he remains engaged technically, having played a major part in resolving transmission stability issues in the UK and more recently in Iceland. He a Visiting Professor in Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde,

Increasing demands are being made on the world's Transmission and Distribution networks as new generation is being added and electricity markets develop. Renewable generation brings its own challenges, often being remote from the place where the power is used.
