Psymetrix wins New Zealand
Psymetrix Limited announced today that it has won a contract to supply its advanced power dynamics management system to Transpower New Zealand Limited. The industry-leading system will allow Transpower to effectively manage its power grid dynamics and ensure that reliability is maintained as the New Zealand transmission system is reinforced and new generation, including renewable sources, is connected to meet growing demand and reduce carbon emissions.

"Psymetrix's StormMinder PDM system will enhance our ability to manage dynamic stability and will provide valuable support for the planned increase in loading of our power system", said Tim George, General Manager Grid Investment, Transpower New Zealand. "We chose Psymetrix because of their proven track record, particularly in Australia, where their systems are used as an integral part of operational management to securely maximise power transfers and for real-time operational decisions affecting power system security", he added.
"The contract with Transpower underlines the value of Psymetrix products and expertise to deliver the industry's most accomplished solution for on-line real-time power dynamics management", said Dr Jos Trehern. "Furthermore, we also provide many years of unrivalled operational experience and extensive in-house expertise to Transpower and our other customers ensuring that they obtain maximum benefit from their investment", added Robert Folkes, VP Commercial, Psymetrix.
"We need the Psymetrix system to evaluate the dynamic performance of the New Zealand power system and to provide a basis for model validation. This will allow us to maximise the transmission capacity and potentially defer expensive upgrades. As the transmission system is operated closer to its physical limits, we envisage that real-time information from the system may also be used to increase the utilisation and security of the system, to the benefit of all grid users", explained Tim George.
Psymetrix provides power dynamics management systems for transmission system operators and planners world-wide. The Psymetrix StormMinder PDM system provides continuous real-time information about critical dynamic stability conditions on the grid.
Using StormMinder PDM control and planning engineers have securely increased power flows, enhanced reliability, validated dynamics models and assessed the performance of power control systems.
The award of the Transpower contract follows recent Psymetrix successes in Australia and Europe.
