Islanding Recovery / Resynchronisation
The PhasorPoint Islanding Recovery/Resynchronisation application provides real-time tools for viewing system frequency and voltage angle difference to provide operator support for re-synchronising a system split.
PhasorPoint showing system split into three islands. The co-operation of Landsnet, the Icelandic System Operator in providing data and giving permission to share this illustration is gratefully acknowledged.
Visualisation features include:
- Topological display of frequency and angle difference across the grid
- Intuitive colour scheme to indicate:
- location of islands
- high- and low-frequency regions
- Maximum and minimum frequency chart
- Interactive charts for aiding system re-synchronising and strengthening
- New interactive facilities, including selecting a pair of locations to view trends of:
- voltage magnitude difference
- frequency difference
- angle difference
- New phasor referencing method that shows angle changes in both (or all) islands, rather than artificially fixing angles to a specific reference. This provides a more realistic view of angle swings and oscillations
Key benefits of the PhasorPoint Islanding Recovery/Resynchronisation application include:
- Blackstart & islanding recovery
- Helps operators carry out important tasks more effectively in an emergency situation:
- identify the islands
- align frequency of the islands
- select a boundary to re-synchronise, across boundary align voltage and angle
- visualise when synchrocheck relay should operate, confirm successful closure
- select angle differences to align for subsequent line closures
