Prompt Detection of Poor Damping
Due to the long thin nature of a particular transmission system operator's power system, oscillatory stability limitations were apparent. And when new interconnections were commissioned, or existing inter-connectors augmented, the potential existed for system damping to be adversely impacted.
Experience had demonstrated that the Psymetrix monitoring system would rapidly detect significant deterioration in system damping very quickly, via an alarm alerting the operator security coordinators. The cause would then be investigated via a combination of analysis of SCADA data and knowledge of current system conditions.
The Psymetrix system not only alerted the security coordinators to the problem but also provided confirmation that remedial measures taken had been effective.
